Peter Coffeen comes from a family of amateur photographers. His Norwegian immigrant grandfather took pictures of the land, streams and bluffs of his new homeland in northeast Iowa with a large format, glass plate view camera. An uncle photographed seascapes along the coast of Oregon with his Leica and his father made pictures of his bridge projects with an Argus C3, one of the earlier 35mm cameras. Though basically self-taught, Peter studied black and white printing with Lilo Raymond. In the 1970's he began collecting photographs, ranging the historical spectrum. In his own photography still lifes, structural design and landscapes are major interests. His work has appeared in Art and Antiques Magazine. In 2006 the Norfolk Library exhibited his large scale photographs of tulips and last year he participated in the Open Studio Afternoon program at Ruthann Olsson's Norfolk Studio. Peter laments the passing of Kodachrome 64.
