John Garret Thew was born 1927 into a family of artists in Westport Connecticut. He served in US Navy ‘45-’46, and attended the University of Bridgeport. John studied with artist father Robert Garret Thew producing table lamps, trivets and silhouette weathervanes. He married Eve Van de Water 1951, and raised two children, Ann and Robert. In 1969 he moved his studio from Westport, CT to Norfolk, CT and created a line of sculpted copper weathevanes. Many thousands were produced here in Norfolk and shipped world wide. Miniature watercolors, table sculptures, garden figures and barn-side decorations were added in recent years.
